Creating a new jabber account

Start uMessenger and select New account from the command menu.
Insert a jabber server, without "http" or "www" (ex: jabber.com or jabber.org or tipic.com; see JabberView.com for an updated list of active jabber servers) or leave blank if you don't know (default: jabber.org).
Fill in the registration form and press register.
uMessenger will then show the initial window; in few seconds you will receive a notification of your registering process.

Login

Press Login
Type in your username,password and server (server defaults to jabber.org) and press Login.
Don't use your ICQ,AIM,MSN,YAHOO accounts here.
After you have logged in, uMessenger has two main windows: Chat window and contact list window; you can always switch using Chat and Contacts in the command menu.

Activating gateways

uMessenger is interoperable with ICQ,AIM,MSN,Yahoo through jabber gateways.
After you have logged on your jabber server, select New gateway from the command menu and select which service you want to connect to (ICQ,AIM,MSN,Yahoo).
Insert your AOL Screen Name/password or ICQ#/password or Yahoo,MSN username/password and press New gateway.
You may need to insert your contact list manually (ICQ,AIM) or you will find your previous contacts in the Contact list window.
When you login with your jabber username/password, you will see at one time your contacts on your activated gateways.

Adding, deleting and editing contacts

From the contact list window select Add contact and the contact type (Jabber,ICQ,AIM,Yahoo,MSN). Then insert the details of your new contact.
Select Delete selected contact to delete the selected contact in the contact list.
Select Edit selected contact to edit the details of the selected contact in the contact list.

Sending a message

• from the contact list window, select a contact to send him a message.
  Note that by pressing chat won't change the recipient of the next message; the chat command only switches to the chat window.
  The contact must be selected with the select button of your handset (the same you use to follow web links or to select menu options).
• from the chat window select a message to reply to.
• from the chat window select Send Msg to send a message to your latest recipient after you have received or sent a message.

Multimedia messaging and Logo exchanging

This feature is available in uMessenger Plus only.
Use Logo browser to manage your collected logos or to send a logo.

• Download - insert a URL of a logo on any website. The logo bust be a PNG image smaller than 4kBytes.
• Send as URL - send the URL of the selected logo, without actually send the image; the receiver will automatically download the logo and display it in the chat window.
• Send as file - send the selected logo as attachment of the message.
• Save as intro logo - Utilize the selected logo as the logo of the main page instead of the uppli logo.

uMessenger Plus supports Jabber file transfer protocol; you can send a PNG logo from any PC Jabber client to your handset. Check JabberCentral to find an updated list of Jabber clients on different platforms.
